Career Planning

The trick is finding the right career for you.

Did you know there are around 975 career paths and that they keep evolving?

The good news is that there is certain to be at least one where you are likely to find success and satisfaction.

The challenge is that there are so many that it is easy to find yourself confused and overwhelmed.

“What do I want to be when I grow up?”

This question can arise whether you are a young adult and asking yourself this question for the first time, mid-career when you find that you are not happy with your initial choice or are forced to rethink your career path, or when planning for retirement – particularly if you want to continue to remain employed in some fashion.

Let’s partner to plan your career direction.

No matter your age or stage, I can help you answer the question you’ve heard several times, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

By going through a structured career evaluation, you can narrow down these 975 possibilities to a top three or four that are realistic options for YOU. Together, we will figure out your strengths and weaknesses, the best career options for you and craft a plan around how to decide and move forward.

Other questions a career evaluation can answer include the following: What are good majors for you? What type of work culture will help maximize your capacity for success? Are you a good candidate to start your own business?

The assessment is a four-part process consisting of EXPLORE – ANALYZE—REVIEW—RESEARCH.

Explore your goals.

At our initial meeting, we examine your career goals and review your work, educational, and family history in depth.

I am interested in getting to know you well – what shaped your views of career and success – your interests, hopes, and dreams. As you tell me your story, I listen carefully and share any patterns or hypotheses that come to mind.

Analyze existing data.

Next, you complete a set of online career inventories and other analytical activities.

We want to efficiently gather data about your interests, skills, personality, values, and preferred operating style.

Holding up a “data mirror” allows you to get a different perspective on who you are and where you belong in the work world.

Review assessment and narrow the scope.

We review your assessment results in a comprehensive meeting designed to answer your questions and lay the groundwork for your next action steps.

Based on your data, we collaboratively narrow your focus to a list of three-to-five career paths that make sense for YOU.

Research information pertaining to your choices.

We complete the evaluation process by reviewing how to research careers of interest through online resources, how to access and use labor market information properly in career planning, and how to conduct informational interviews.

We also talk about the decision-making process itself, so that you can take action when you are ready.

What’s in it for you?

What’s in this experience for you is getting unstuck and the renewed ability to move forward toward a more satisfying career/life experience.
